In a cluttered junkyard behind a row of storage sheds, a stray calico mother cat was doing everything she could to protect her newborn kittens.

Kritter Klub’s cameras first spotted her carrying a tiny kitten by the scruff of its neck. She carefully moved across scrap wood and stacked crates, trying to take her baby to a safer hiding place.

But the mother cat was seriously injured. Thin fishing net cord was tightly wrapped around her neck and chest, cutting into her skin and leaving painful, inflamed wounds beneath her fur.

As she carried her kittens to safety, one tiny baby came dangerously close to the cord wrapped around her throat. The sight made it clear that the entire family needed urgent help.

A local resident had been watching the injured cat for several days and alerted the rescue team. Following the information, the rescuers located her makeshift shelter inside a storage building.

Her hiding place was a narrow gap beneath stacked rice bags and an old mattress. Inside, the newborn kittens lay curled together in the darkness, their eyes still closed as they made faint sounds against the bare floor.

Rescuing the frightened and injured mother was not easy. The team placed a humane trap cage nearby while carefully collecting the kittens by hand. Each tiny baby was gently wrapped in cloth before the mother could move the litter again.

Once the entire family was safely secured, they were taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

Under the bright clinic lights, the severity of the mother’s injury became clear. The fishing net had tightened around her neck and sunk into her skin, leaving a raw, partially healed wound extending across her chest.

The veterinarian carefully cut away the cord, removing it strand by strand until the mother cat was finally free from the material that had likely trapped her for weeks.

Her newborn kittens also received medical attention. Each one was examined, and soothing eye drops were administered to help treat their irritated eyes.

After treatment, the mother and her babies were placed together in a warm recovery incubator. Wearing a protective cone to prevent her from disturbing the healing wound, the exhausted cat finally began to relax.

She curled around her nursing kittens, keeping them close as they rested together in safety.

After enduring so much pain while trying to protect her babies, the mother cat could finally rest. Her rescue became a touching reminder of a mother’s determination and the difference compassionate people can make for animals in need.
