In a surprising turn of events, Riley Gaines, a former University of Kentucky swimmer and emerging conservative commentator, has been awarded the prestigious “Woman of the Year” title. This accolade, which recognizes outstanding achievements in various fields, saw Gaines surpassing renowned soccer star Megan Rapinoe. 

The unanimous decision by all nine judges highlights Gaines’ significant contributions to women’s rights and her impactful presence in the public sphere. Gaines, who has been vocal about her conservative views, has garnered attention for her advocacy and community service.

Gaines’ journey to this recognition is marked by her impressive athletic career and academic excellence. During her time at the University of Kentucky, she secured three individual conference titles, set two Southeastern Conference records, and earned 12 All-America honors. Her dedication extended beyond the pool, as she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in human health sciences and a minor in advocacy.

In addition to her academic and athletic achievements, Gaines has been actively involved in community service. She has participated in various programs, including God’s Pantry, Special Olympics of Kentucky, and the Kentucky United Telethon, which raised over $3 million for tornado victims.
