Maggie goes to the dentist and asks about the cost of a tooth extraction.

“85 dollars for an extraction, ma’am,” the dentist replied.

“Oh, you can’t get anything cheaper,” the Scottish girl replied irritably.

“But that’s the normal price for an extraction, ma’am,” the dentist replied.

“And if you don’t use anesthesia?” Maggie asked hopefully.

“Well, that’s highly unusual, ma’am, but if that’s what you want, I think I can do it for $65.”

“And what if you use one of your dental interns without anesthesia?” the Scottish girl asked.

“Well, it’s possible, but they’re only in training, and I can’t guarantee their level of professionalism.

It will be much more painful, but I suppose in that case we can lower the price to, say, $40.”

“Oh, that’s still a bit much.

How about you turn it into a training session and have your student do the extraction while the other students watch and learn?”

The dentist replied, “Okay, I think that’s good for the students.

I’ll only charge you $5 in that case, but it will be a traumatic experience.”

“Now I hear you talking, son! Deal,” Maggie said.

“Can you book the man for next Wednesday?”
