I was giving away clothes for a little girl who was about 2–3 years old. The clothes were still in good condition, and I wanted them to go to a child who really needed them.

One day, a woman contacted me by text. She told me that she was going through a very difficult situation and that her young daughter had almost nothing to wear.

She asked me:

“Could you send me these clothes by post?”

At first, I honestly wanted to tell her to go away. I wasn’t sure whether she was telling the truth, and I wondered if she was simply trying to get free clothes.

But then I thought:

“Who knows what really happened to her? Maybe she really is going through a terrible situation.”

So instead of judging her, I decided to help.

I packed up all the clothes and sent them to her. I even paid the postage myself.

After that, I completely forgot about it.

One Year Later…

About a year later, I received a package.

I was surprised because I wasn’t expecting anything.

When I opened it, I found several things inside, including nuts, dried fish, homemade marmalade, and other homemade food items.

There was also a message from the woman who had contacted me a year earlier.

It turned out that her family had finally gotten through their difficult period. Her husband had found a good job, and their financial situation had improved.

She explained that she had never forgotten the clothes I had sent for her daughter when they were struggling.

Now that her family was doing better, she wanted to thank me and return the kindness in her own way.

I had sent those clothes without expecting anything in return. I didn’t even know whether I would ever hear from her again.

But a year later, she remembered.

She could have simply moved on with her life, but she chose to show her gratitude.

The Message Behind the Story

Sometimes, we don’t know what another person is going through. It’s easy to judge someone or assume they’re lying, especially when we don’t know their circumstances.

But one small act of kindness can mean a lot to someone who is struggling.

And sometimes, the kindness you give without expecting anything back comes back to you in the most unexpected way.

You may forget the small thing you did for someone, but they may remember it for years.
